Have you been missing your comfort foods? Most people do! If you have been trying to do a keto diet and feel like you are missing something – don’t give up!  You can make some amazing flour recipes with these awesome substitute ideas.  You may have to try some out and tweak the recipes a bit to fit your taste, but lets get creative!

Coconut Flour is one of the most common mentioned low carb flours. BUT… its not always great in place of regular flour and its very dry. You do need to add additional egg (double the amount) or liquid to make it work well, and you can use less coconut flour than you would other flours.

1 Cup of Wheat flour = 1/3 Cup of Coconut Flour
1 Cup Almond Flour = 1/4 Cup Coconut Flour
1 Cup Almond flour = 1 Cup Wheat Flour  (I prefer super fine or culinary Almond Flour)
These numbers do vary some depending on the source you get them from … just so you know!

Almond flour is great also, but I really like to mix it with another flour. Almond flour is more “wet” and if you combine it with a little coconut flour it tends to balance it out some. Almond flour can make things a bit “dense” so adding an extra egg, or some baking  powder or xanthum gum can be helpful too.

Sunflower Seed Flour or Pumpkin Seed Flour can also be used… although I have not use it yet.

Psyllium Husk can not be used as a flour but it can be used to increase the fiber, consistency and texture of a recipe. It tends to make things more crumbly.

  1. golden flax meal works well combined with other flours in recipes too – I like adding some of it to the 90 second bread recipe using almond flour. And I’ve used hazelnut meal too for a pseudo graham cracker crust
